CoolAudit Basic is a service designed to help assess the existing cooling environment within your data center and provide guidance to make improvements.  The goal is to optimize the performance of your existing cooling infrastructure without making major changes to your rack layouts or new investments in infrastructure.  The Gartner Group estimated that the average data center can improve cooling efficiency by roughly 30%.  Realizing this efficiency can save thousands of dollars in electrical costs and prevent even larger expenditures for increased cooling capacity.  Unfortunately, many data center managers are not sure what modifications or products can help in their unique environment.  Data Center Resources provides the CoolAudit service to address this.

CoolAudit improves cooling efficiency to help with your Green Data Center initiatives

The CoolAudit Basic service starts with one of our experienced Site Engineers visiting your site to gather data on your existing cooling and hardware infrastructure.  Some of the items that will be recorded include:

• Rack temperature at each rack at ASHRAE recommended locations

• Power load of each server cabinet

• Temperature and humidity at CRAC supply and return points

• Room temperatures of critical points including cold aisles and hot aisles

• Inspection and analysis of subfloor condition and air flow

• Air velocity at perforated tiles

The information collected will be analyzed to generate a report on the current capabilities and performance of your data center cooling.  This assessment will provide information on the cooling capacity in relation to your overall power load. Problem areas and situations will be thoroughly detailed.  The second portion of the report will provide specific steps that can be taken to help improve cooling efficiency.  There will be steps to address the problem areas identified as well as recommendations for overall improvements.  The steps may include modifications or enhancements within the cabinets, outside the cabinets or in the subfloor.  Again, because we realize the importance of downtime and the difficulty of equipment changes, the recommendations will be as non-disruptive to your existing layout as possible.
